How admission works
Admission is by lottery. Applications for the next school year open in January, and those received by 3 p.m. Jan. 31 go into a lottery held on the second Tuesday in February; later applications go on the waiting list, according to the school’s enrollment lottery page.
Since 2022 the lottery has been weighted, giving families who qualify as economically disadvantaged 2-to-1 priority. Siblings of enrolled students get priority but must apply. Applicants must live in North Carolina and be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 of the year they start.
