Families can apply to magnet and choice schools outside their zone during the application periods on the assignment timeline.

We compared the district’s elementary, middle and high school zones, as published in the City of Winston-Salem’s school district map layers, with Forsyth County’s address points. Every residential address in its zone is inside Winston-Salem’s city limits. Its zone is split between the Winston-Salem Prep (54%), Mineral Springs Middle (30%) and East Forsyth Middle (16%) middle school zones and the Carver High zone for high school. The locator is the final word for any single address.

Rezoning: the Board of Education voted on Oct. 28, 2025, to close Cook Literacy Model School in June 2026 and redraw residential boundaries to send Cook’s students to Ashley Academy, Brunson Elementary and Kimberley Park Elementary starting in the 2026-27 school year, the district reported. The city’s map layer used above still shows a separate Cook zone, so check any address in the former Cook zone with the locator.
