How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside Winston-Salem’s city limits, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 12, 2026. A barbecue stand on Old Walkertown Road has no website of its own, and we could not confirm it through a second official source in time for this check, so it is not listed yet. The list is alphabetical. It is not a ranking or a recommendation, and nobody paid to be on it. Run one of these places? Write to us to correct your entry.

The places
Camel City BBQ Factory is in a 1927 stucco warehouse on North Liberty Street. Its story page says Steve Doumas’s father opened his first restaurant, the Dixie Grill, in a lean-to attached to the same building. The site splits the business into food, drink and games, and lists lunch specials, catering, bulk orders, private parties and a food truck. It does not post its hours, so call before you go.
East of Texas calls itself a Tex-Mex barbecue restaurant. It says it smokes its meats in house, low and slow, and makes its sides from scratch. It has separate lunch and supper, breakfast and brunch menus, with breakfast on Saturday morning and brunch on Sunday, and it offers online ordering, catering and private event space. A second location is in Durham.
Honky Tonk Smokehouse describes itself as a locally owned barbecue spot that puts a Texas and Memphis twist on North Carolina barbecue. Its menu lists brisket, baby back ribs, pulled pork, chicken, turkey breast and jalapeño cheddar sausage, with 20 sides. It says all its sauces, most meats and most sides are gluten-free, and it offers pickup, delivery and catering.
Real Q is family-owned and says its barbecue is pit-cooked over wood, with meat cooked overnight, every night, over hot coals. It takes online orders for pickup, works with delivery services and caters events. It asks customers to call ahead for holiday hours, and it has a separate catering line, 336-529-2480.
